Case 1.

Imperfect Osteogenesis, or hereditary pathologic fragility of bones, is a rare serious disease characterized by the inhibition and distortion of the osteogenesis process resulting in the systemic osteoporosis.

The main clinical symptoms of this disease are bone deformation (diaphysis bend) and pathologic fractures of the long tubula bones, which occur due to the slightest causes. The fragility of bones is accompanied by the sharply depressed periosteum function.

Hereditary mesenchyme systemic deficiency is considered to be the main cause of the Imperfect Osteogenesis development.

The traumatologists distinguish more sever (antenatal) and milder (postnatal) forms of this hereditary pathology. It is reported that pathologic bone fragility that appears in intrauterine state or at birth (Vrolik’s disease) is not compatible with life. If pathological fractures appear later, some patients live till middle age, but they are doomed to invalidism. In the expert’s guides for traumatologists and orthopedists it is claimed that there is no pathogenic treatment.

We have not found any articles on homeopathic treatment of this pathology.

Traditional medicine recommends sea baths, massage, and exercise therapy. The prophylaxis of fractures, contractures and deformations is usually carried out by means of corrective splints. In case of fractures, limb axis is corrected by means of plaster splits, if it is possible. The deformations appeared are corrected by means of osteoclasia. Arcuate bone deformation in older people is corrected by the surgery.

Thus, traditional treatment of Imperfect Osteogenesis is palliative.

I believe that the case from my practice may be interesting...

For the first time a boy was consulted by the homeopath at the age of 1.8 on chalazion (ophthalmologists insisted on surgical treatment, but parents were searching for the gentle treatment) in December, 1997. At the time of the first observation the boy was neither walking nor crawling.

Medical history information:

During pregnancy there was diagnosed Intrauterine hypotrophy I., Functional immaturity. The boy was born very weak. He was floppy, he could not suck, he was fed through a tube and only after 10 days he was put to the breast. On the sixth day of his life the child was diagnosed with a broken left shoulder. The boy grew capricious and restless. He slept three or four hours a day before he was 3 month old. He had bad weight gaining because he was spitting up all the food like a fountain.

In 2 month age there was diagnosed the Syndrome of hyperexcitability, increased muscle tone of extremities, Rickets I, Hypotrophy I, Anemia I, Torticollis I, Umbilical hernia.

At 5.5 month age there was diagnosed Imperfect Osteogenesis (Vrolik’s disease).

At 6 month age the boy’s left shoulder was fractured when his mother offered the boy her hands and gently pulled him over to make him sit down.

In 4 months the boy got his left thigh fractured when his mother was gently taking him from the crib. A week later there was the next fracture (right thigh) without any cause.

At 9 month age there was diagnosed the Syndrome of the delayed psychomotor development. The child was not gaining weight. Diagnosis: Hypotrophy II.

The child often had acute respiratory disease and bronchitis. He was prescribed antibiotics, which caused dysbacteriosis. The boy remained thin, there was observed a steady anemia, he was sweating at night–it was necessary to change his shirt and pillow all the time. In addition, motion of the transport made him sick.

Before the beginning of the homeopathic treatment the child had 7 fractures, about 20 radiographs had been made.

Deformation of the left clavicle

2 weeks of the homeopathic treatment made the child much calmer and normalized his sleep. Chalazions quickly disappeared.

Positive results of the homeopathic treatment of chalazions motivated parents to entrust the treatment of the main disease, i.e. Imperfect Osteogenesis, to a homeopath.

Further homeopathic treatment gradually made the boy stronger. He rarely had acute respiratory disease. His appetite improved, and he no longer had anemia. The boy began to gain weight, completely got rid of the night sweating.

Due to homeopathic treatment the boy began to walk when he was 2.5 years old, torticollis and umbilical hernia disappeared. Sickness in the transport no longer disturbed him. He had no fractures. Dental formula corresponded his age. The general state was satisfactory.

According to the studies, these patients have progressive kyphosis or scoliosis. My patient is still having scoliosis, but it is unexpressed, and it is not progressing. The boy has no hearing impairment, muscle atrophy, dislocations or subluxations, unlike the classical clinical picture of the Imperfect Osteogenesis. There remains varus deformity of the hips. But we observe neither characteristic contractures nor aggravation of the deformations that have appeared earlier.

It is interesting that neurologists noted normalization of the child’s psychomotor development after a few months of homeopathic treatment. At the age of 5 the boy read well. He successfully completed a preparatory course and went to school to the first class in accordance with his age.

Thus, in my view, positive results achieved by the treatment of the most severe form of the Imperfect Osteogenesis make us take an optimistic view of the disease treatment: Homeopathy can improve life quality of these patients and prevent their invalidism.

Author's note:
Today, the boy is 20 years old. His general condition is satisfactory. He is a third-year student of Ivan Franko National University of Lviv! He enjoys an active lifestyle. His general state is satisfactory. The boy has no complaints. Despite the fact that, according to the researches, these patients usually have contractures, progressive hearing loss and other complications, this patient does not have such symptoms. Fractures without any cause that characterize Imperfect Osteogenesis have not been observed over the last 10 years.

This clinical observation and other similar cases from my practice prove that treatment according to the principles of Classical Homeopathy makes it possible to significantly improve life quality of children suffering from the Imperfect Osteogenesis.

Case 2.

In June 2005 a man applied to me. His daughter had pain in her legs and hip joints, from time to time she was limping, last month it was so difficult for her to walk that the parents were thinking about home schooling (before the 7th grade). The diagnosis failed to be identified.

The girl was examined by a surgeon of Vinnytsia branch of Dnipropetrovsk Institute of Expertise of Invalids’ Disabilities. Diagnosis: hip dysplasia. The patient was sent for the surgical treatment to Kyiv Institute of Traumatology and Orthopedics.

But after consultations in Kyiv the parents told me that the surgery was appointed for early September, as in June the leading experts who could perform it were on vacation. But it hurts the child!..

The parents asked me if I could have appointed something. I did as requested. Several weeks of homeopathic treatment let the girl walk easier. And in August neither the girl nor her parents planned to start home schooling! The parents asked me, "The girl has been appointed an operation, but, in our opinion, the child is healthy. What should we do?".

I advised them to go to Kyiv for the examination and to listen to the doctor’s opinion.

A few weeks later the parents told me that after a thorough examination and consultation of the doctors from the Institute, experienced children orthopedic surgeons entered the room and told them and the girl, “In your case the operation is not needed any longer”.

Today the patient has graduated from the University, she has got a job. She has no complaints.
